Vision Impairment
Tuesday, April 7
Visual impairment is a decreased ability to see to a degree that causes problems not restored through usual means such as glasses. Being aware of warning signs of vision problems as we age can help us take appropriate steps to protect our eyesight.

Join optometrist Dr. Tyler Strong, to learn more about the most common causes of visual impairment as we age: macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. The talk will provide information on these conditions as well as how to manage them.

Hearing Impairment
Tuesday, April 14
Hearing impairment is a partial or total inability to hear and can affect quality of life.

Learn more about symptoms associated with age related hearing loss and what to do when a hearing loss is suspected. Assessments, treatment options and communication strategies will be discussed.

Hanna Smith, M.Sc., registered Audiologist and Hearing Instrument Practitioner, with Wave Front Centre for Communication Accessibility will be presenting this workshop.

Tuesday, April 21
Strokes are a medical condition in which poor blood flow to the brain results in cell death. It occurs when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients.

The Stroke Recovery Association of BC will provide support and information: to understand and navigate the 7 components of recovery: getting back to your life post stroke, community programs and resources, transitioning from hospital to home and home back to community.

Parkinson’s Disease
Tuesday, April 28
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement.  Symptoms start gradually and can include tremors, stiffness or slowing of movement.

This talk by physiotherapist Shelly Yu, Parkinson’s Society, offers an overview of Parkinson’s Disease, noting its physical, emotional and social dimensions.  Assessment and treatment will be reviewed. Options for support will be presented. There will be time for questions and discussion.
